Common Troubleshooting Techniques to Enhance your Experience

Q: I'm having trouble playing the DVD in my computer, what do I do?

A: Make sure you indeed have a DVD-ROM drive on your system. Most of the time, the drive door will have the DVD-ROM logo on the front. Next, if you have never played a DVD on your system, find and run the DVD player software. On the Macintosh, this is generally the Apple DVD Player. On Windows systems, the software player is typically supplied by a third-party vendor, which may be supported by the system supplier. You may need to alter some configuration settings in your software. Refer to your software documentation for more information or to your drive manufacturer's website for driver updates.

If your Windows-based DVD playback software does not launch the DVD, then you might try the following strategy:

1. Using Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher, find the DVD using the drop-down menu in the upper-right hand corner (make sure you're in Full Mode).

2. Click on the + sign next to the words "Title" or "Title 1" located below the drop-down menu.

3. You should now see a list of chapters as in the image on the left.

Q: My set top DVD player was bought outside the US, will the DVD still play?

A: Yes. We use region-free coding so that our DVD's will play back on most any unit worldwide. In addition, most PAL DVD players will be able to decode NTSC images. However, if your television cannot display NTSC images, then you will not be able to see the video regardless of video format.

Q: Where can I find the files the artist uses so that I can follow along with the lesson?

A: When applicable, we provide you with files that you can simply copy to your hard drive. If no media was included with your product, then the product packaging may indicate a URL where you can download the files.

Q: I'm having trouble with the project files that come with "Complete Training for Final Cut Pro 5"?

A: Since file type suffixes are normally hidden on the Mac, the duplicator ignored them so they were lost during the copying of the project discs. Here's the workaround:

On Disc 1 the two media files should have the suffix .mov added to the file name.

On Disc 2 in the Media folder a number of files do not have suffixes. All those that do not have suffixes should be appended with .mov, except that file called Project, which should be Project.fcp.
