One of the keys to creating an interesting composite of multiple images is to make portions of those images transparent, so that you can see other images behind or through them. In this course, Chris Meyer demonstrates the most common techniques for adding this selective transparency to layers in After Effects: through the use of masking, track mattes, and stencils. A good amount of time is also spent showing how effects interact with these. In addition to explaining the tools and basic theory, Chris also demonstrates several practical applications for these techniques, including isolating objects, creating vignettes, and filling text with visual texture, plus shares ideas for crafting custom transitions and other treatments.
Topics include:
• Creating masks using parametric shapes or the freeform pen tool
• Editing and animating masks
• Combining multiple masks
• Using one layer to define the transparency of others
• Explaining the interaction between effects, masks, and mattes
• Mastering mask animation through advanced concepts such as Mask Interpolation and the First Vertex Point
Approx. Run Time: 2hrs, 10 mins.
